Construction Details
There is more than one acceptable way to construct a building. The methods illustrated on this web site have been found to work well with volunteer workers who have little or no knowledge of construction. These pictures are meant to be an extension of the "Construction Manual", written and edited annually by volunteer, construction committee members from the Cobb County affiliate. Rare among Habitat affiliates building more than 20 homes per year, Cobb County Habitat's house leaders [SPMs] are ALL volunteers. A great effort has and continues to be made to standardize design and construction methods to consistently build a quality home at minimum cost. Most of the SPMs and Crew Leaders work 40+ hours per week and then give up 10 consecutive Saturdays to build a home for a person they just met. These SPMs and crew leaders [men & women] are the people the Gray Ghosts take pleasure in serving.

The third and last house with a hip roof is nearing completion. It is unlikely that we will build additional homes using this complex truss system. There are better ways to build hips. [10/20/01]
